Some Beading Facts

Posted by Kelly on 8/24/2010
Beading was around from as early as the 1800's. At that time beads were as small as 20/0 with many colors and graduations. Those small beads are somewhat of a collector's item since they are no longer produced as the process is too labor intensive.

In the 1990's, the price for the smallest beads increased in value due to their popularity. Beads continued to be popular through the 1950ís in designer clothing and purses.

Native American and Oriental bead work was popular from the early 1800ís through the mid-1900ís. In the 1960ís love beads were popular, and in the 1970ís larger bead work with macramé and bead embroidery were brought back.

Until the mid 1980ís, beads and beading were mainly used for ornamentation purposes.

Beads have continued to be used in costumes and haute couture of the rich and famous for decades.

The internet has set a new stage in the bead and fiber world. Bead enthusiasts can share information, buy beads, as well as read book reviews and learn new techniques over the internet. People can purchase any bead online and have it shipped right to their door.

The internet has taken away the touchy, feely part of buying beads but along with that came the introduction of variety and choice. It also meant that you no longer had to take the time and effort to find a source for what you needed - you can simply go online.

Needless to say we have become one of those large online bead stores. We take pride in the fact that while we offer a large selection of beads, charms, fashion chain and all the supplies one beader could ask for, we also make sure our prices are right and that we provide our visitor's with excellent customer service.
